ULTEM

Polyetherimide is a high-performance amorphous engineering polymer introduced in 1982, commercially available under the ULTEM trade name. The stability of its imide bonds gives the material high heat resistance, resistance to deformation and high rigidity, while the bond between the phenyl rings provides the chain flexibility needed for good melt processability. It has good electrical insulation properties that are stable across a wide range of temperatures and frequencies.

What are the main features of ULTEM?

ULTEM is flame retardant (UL 94-V0 certified) and emits low smoke and toxicity when burning. It has formidable chemical resistance (to hydrocarbons, acids and aqueous solutions) and remarkable stability against UV and radiation.

What temperature can it withstand?

It has a glass-transition temperature (Tg) of as much as 217 °C, allowing the material to retain rigidity and shape even in high-heat environments.
